Falmouth Road Race Team Latham raises more than $13,000

On race day, photos taken by Latham’s Falmouth Road Race Team Leader Diana Morgan and shared via social media helped our friends, family, and supporters feel a part of the excitement. In this post-race update, Diana reflects on her experience and shares her heartfelt appreciation:

“The 46th running of the Falmouth Road Race on Sunday, August 19th was AMAZING. In the early-morning hours, Latham’s team members and some 12,000 runners made their way to Woods Hole to the start of the seaside course. I made my way to the finish line to be on hand to cheer on the runners, capture photos, and welcome our team upon the end of the race. The weather was cool and it was overcast. Although it was a bit windy, the rain held off and runners were thankful for the cooler temperatures. More than 2,000 volunteers lined the course, and with everyone eager to see their friends, co-workers and family members cross the finish line, there was barely an open spot left to see the race. I found a perfect vantage point on the ledge of a brick wall at one of the hotels about a quarter of a mile from the finish line. Holding up my camera, I couldn’t wait to see one of our team runners pass by. The view was great – I saw runners making their final turn on the course, coming down the hill to cross the finish line. And it wouldn’t be Cape Cod without an amazing view of the ocean, complete with sailboats passing by in the background.

The crowd eagerly awaited the finish of their loved ones, and for many of us, the finish of our friends and colleagues running to raise money for a cause. It was a thrill to see our Latham team members complete this challenging run; they spent months training and fundraising, ran 7.1 miles along the challenging course, and were beaming at the finish-line gathering spot — many of them proud of their run times and some even saying they wanted to run more! A few new runners to the group enjoyed meeting previous runners and clearly, everyone was happy to be part of the team.

As Team Leader, I am just so proud of our 11 runners. Together, they have raised more than $13,000 for the future Latham Community Center. Falmouth Road Race Team Latham 2018 includes Steve Bebrin, Katrina Fryklund, Gerry Pouliot, Kalyn Mika, Melissa Hyer, Viet Le, Maryanna Aldrich, Catherine Ricks, Chad Simmons, Carrie Wilkins, and Cat Kershaw. Each and every runner deserves a huge CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU!”
