Latham offers a Virtual Class based on community need

When our worlds changed in early 2020 and “virtual” become the new normal, we anticipated that many of the children with Prader-Willi syndrome who live at home would be more isolated than ever. To help meet the needs of our larger PWS community, Latham Centers created a virtual Storytime and a virtual Social Hour.

Starting Tuesday, November 3rd, Brittni Kliment, Katrina Fryklund, and Patrice Carroll will offer a new virtual class (Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. EST) for students with PWS (ages 8-22) interested in learning about the strangest, scariest, cutest, and most fascinating animals on our planet. Katrina noted, “After we learn fun facts, I will guide students through how to draw some of these crazy critters in a step-by-step process.”

This coming Tuesday, we will learn about turtles and tortoises. Did you know that all tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises? We’ll explain the difference! Fun fact: the smallest turtle in the world is the Speckled Cape Tortoise, weighing only 5 ounces and measuring only 3 inches long. The largest tortoise is the Galapagos Tortoise, which is over 6 feet long! Some turtles can live for more than 100 years! We will learn about the different species of turtles and have a chance to show off our artistic abilities when Katrina leads us through drawing our very own turtle!
